Hi,
I'm going to make my own viv,has anyone varnished the inside,is it safe for corns, thinking of using a water based type, stupid question just want to be safe.

Definitely not a stupid question.

I used the clear stuff designed for wooden floors. Gave the interior three coats, letting the first two dry before sanding them down. I know it won't be waterproof, but I guess that made it as water-resistant as possible. Then I let it air for three weeks. Probably overkill, but there were no fumes by the time it was occupied and no ill-effects to the snake.

Don't be tempted to use marine stuff unless you've checked it carefully. Varnish designed for use on boats sometimes contains chemicals to retard the growth of algae and barnacles. I figure that's too much of an unknown to risk.

They make a water base floor sealer / varnish (whatever you call it) and that would be a very good idea.
