now im building a wood enclosure, how much ventilation is needed??? would to 4in hole in the top be enough?

That a good question!!!
When I build my viv's I researched for the same answer but never found a good one. I couldn't find a ..."square inch of vent needed per square foot of viv space" to refer too.
My viv are 25"x19"x18" and I have two vent on top that measures 3"x20"
and I never had a problem.

I would say just plan on adding more vent it needed.

you can always cover them if too hard to maintain temp or humidity. some go high and low but can't remember which helps circulate air. low on cool side is intake with high on hot side for output? or is it low on hot side and high on cool side? lot of retail cages vent along top only on high and low so who knows if it really makes a difference.

Actually Sumguy that is a really good answer. Putting them high and low would give you better circulation. I would put in more than you think you need. It will be easier to cover one that it would be to put a new one in after it was finished.

Check out these vents. They look nice and would be easy to put in.

you dont think the ridges would be bad??? i know my snake will be robbing all over then and hes kinda small so i dont want him to get hurt trying to got out???

Most of my snakes are in rack type systems. I do have four large display vivariums that I have built. I have that type of vent in all of them and have never had any problems. They are maybe 20 years old.
