Very Shy Snake

First, I know young corn snakes hiding is in their nature. I guess when I first got this snake I expected him to hide in the intended hide I supplied. But ever since getting him he has very rarely come out (night and day). I've tried many different substrates and hides to coax him out and make him feel comfortable. From coco soft to paper towels. From paper towels to carpet. He has chose to hide underneath. Is this something I need to just accept and get over? When I hold him he is very docile and does not try to escape from me. The temp is around 80 degrees in the basking side and I feed him pinkies weekly. :shrugs:

I would stop changing things around. It will probably just make him more stressed out and want to hide more. My corn is a year old and he is barely EVER out of his hide (night and day) , like yours. Its normal. Ive been told a hiding snake is a healthy snake. I dont see any hides in this picture though, but correct me if im wrong.

I've had him for about four months and I think your right. I wouldn't be to happy with someone constantly changing my home around. The two logs in the middle bracing the climbing sticks I carved hollow and sanded smooth. The only time I see him is taking him out for tank cleaning and feeding. Still love having him though. I've also heard that if a tank is too large that the snake may become overwhelmed with the space.

Yeah thats true. Try putting some more greenery in there to make him blend some more. I would put one more hide in there. A really small one. One that the entry hole is as big as he is so he feels super secure. It used to really bother me but ive just come to the conclusion that this is a good thing and he likes it this way so i just let him be.

I have two Exo-Terra thermometers. I took the picture right after cleaning the tank. I keep one on the warm side and one on the cool side. My house also stays pretty warm, never really going below 75 degrees.

The dial-type thermometers are really very inaccurate. It may be much hotter than you think in the tank and that might be why your snake isn't coming out.
