Viewing Snakes at Night

Most of my snakes are nocturnal. I would like to be able to view them at night. I obviously can't just turn on a light in the room, because it's too bright. I have a 48" light fixture I'm thinking about hanging over my terrariums. What kind of bulb should I buy so that I can see them, but they won't be disturbed? Would a blacklight work? I've read that lizards can see it, can snakes?

The black light simulates moonlight, but the red allows you to see them better, and they can't see it...

LED's are good if you don't want to give off any excess heat with the light source. I know you already have a light fixture in mind, but I've heard of people using strands of LED Christmas lights for night-time viewing.
