Visible breathing?!

Hey, we're probably being paranoid but our (nearly) 3 month old corn keeps doing this every so often... you can see the abdomen going in and out as if it's breathing, but it's not all the time so we thought it's probably not actually the breathing. It's usually been when we've handled the snake, and also when we're expecting him to poop. Could it be his digestive system working or something? Whilst he's doing it he stays quite still. We saw a snake doing it in the pet shop today so thought maybe it's normal- but just wanted reassuring from someone who knows better!

Yeah, I find it really Zen to watch the snakes breathe. As you point out, you can't see it all the time, but it's pretty neat to see them breathe over such a large area.

Good to see you are observing your snake.......
And yes it's breathing...... Amazing how they breath with most of their bodies, isn't it....

Awh cool, thank you both so much :) we're gonna take the snake to the vet to get it sexed anyway but wondered if there was anything else to worry about before we went!

I've even seen snakes YAWN, something I wasn't even aware that they did until observing it a few times (and it wasn't connected with feeding when I observed yawns, in fact the snakes I saw yawn, were resting comfortably in their hides!)

You know what's really freaky. Holding a light-colored snake up to a bright light. You can SEE the lung!

That's impressive.... And I thought the yawning was them realigning their jaw? Is it actually a proper yawn?

my corn has visible breathing when she gets a fright so i always jus guessed it was like a human breathing heavily after sumone jumps out and ses boo :p jus my thoughts :)
