Vitamin Dusting

I've heard that people dust their feeding mice with vitamins, but is this done after thawing the mice so the dust does not wash off? Or does it not matter?

I only dust every few months , thaw first and then just dust the butt of the mouse so the snake dosn't notice till the mouse is almost gone.
