Ive been wanting to add more to Sunbursts viv to give her more things to climb on and under. Tonight I added some branches cut from a butterfly bush that is dormant in the yard. I washed them well, rinsed them and baked them at 300 for half an hour. Let them cool down and such for a number of hours and pulled her out of her viv to the temp tank and put the new stuff in there. Now, I admit it was quite a bit more stuff then was in there before.
When I put her back in her viv she FREAKED. It is the only time that I've ever seen her nearly standing on her tail to get out of the viv. I thought that maybe after a few minutes she would calm down so I kept an eye on her and she never did. She just kept pacing the viv and trying to find ways out WITHOUT touching the new branches. She was completely 100% dead set against having anything to do with them. She even kept burying her head into the substrate in the corner of the viv and acting like she was trying to hide from something.
Anyone seen stuff like this? I ended up pulling all of the new stuff out and leaving just her single branch and vine in there. I figure that maybe over the next few days I might try and slip one new branch in every few days and see how that goes. It was kind of disturbing to see her that worked up.
Thanks all.
