Wait a week before feeding?

ok, so my two baby boys will be here tomorrow (super excited btw :crazy02:)... The breeder said they ate about a week ago... when should I try to feed them? I've seen on several threads that you should wait about a week after getting new snakes before feeding them to prevent stressing them even more, but should I stick with that considering these boys are only 4 months old and already have not eaten for a week?

I fed mine the next day after I got him from Petland without a problem. I'm no expert though.

I'd give them a few days before trying just to be safe. Don't handle or disturb them either. Let em chill for a few days then offer them a meal.

It is much better to wait the week to give any new snake, young or old, the chance to settle into it's new environment before attempting to feed than it is to risk a potential regurge due to stress because of feeding too soon.

I'd say the risk of leaving them a week, is much less than the risk of a regurge from being fed too soon after arrival. In your place, I'd leave it.

Thanks for all the replies! I'll wait awhile. I just wanted to make sure they would be ok, with them being so young.

Not handling for the week and keeping well away will help them settle in better.
Though that is a difficult thing to do as a new owner, what with all the checking and what not... LOL

lol I have the tanks set up in a room away from all the excitement in the house, so hopefully they will settle in pretty quickly.... Driving me nuts those tanks being empty tho hehe

Congrats on your new babies!!!

I agree with the average answer. Wait a week after you put them into the viv's to feed or handle. If they were eating regularly with the breeder then waiting 2 weeks for the next feeding won't hurt them at all. Regurges are not fun to deal with and sometimes don't end well. I have always waited a week before feeding and 3 weeks before handling for fun once I get a new snake. I know how hard it is to wait but it is worth the wait to make sure your babies have the least amout of stress as possible. Just remember, some snakes live 20 years so you will have more than enough time to handle them.

Good luck! Oh and don't forget to post pictures when you can get them. We love pictures!

It is strange because snakes don't need to eat nearly as much or as regularly as another pet!
Even a baby snake can go a month without food.
So, don't worry about your babies being hungry. :)

ok, I'll wait until next weekend before I feed them then. I just want to make sure that I have everything ready for them, and don't screw something up massively :)

it really depends on the snake, with 3 of my snakes i did not have to wait a week to feed them and they ate straight away, but 1 of them didn't eat in the first week (although she is still a problem feeder after 6 months so it was probably down to that)
