Weird eating habits for a hatchling?

shiningfate

scalies are my friends
Sparkster is doing well, he had his first shed a few days ago, but he's still a picky eater. I've been doing the wait 3 days and try again method whenever he refuses, but he seems to have developed a habit of not wanting to eat except once every two weeks. Aren't hatchlings supposed to eat two to three times a week? I also just fed him last night and he just started acting like he's looking for another pinkie once he's done with the one I give him. He seems alright to me, but I'm not sure. Here's a recent picture of him, he's not too small is he? He's looked like this pretty much since the day I got him.

I decided to feed him a second one today, and he took it immediately. I guess it's time to feed him two each time, hopefully that will help straighten out his eating schedule.

Let him eat at his own pace.

I would look into the temperatures though, too cold a temperature will slow their metabolism so it takes them a deal more time to digest and defecate.

cheers

'tis a cutesy snake

I had him at about 85F warm side (I increased it to 90F today, and he's staying in his hide there...so I guess that's better :) ) , and about 70F or so on the cool side. Lately he's been right in the middle, underneath his water dish, so it may have been temp related. He usually takes about 2-3 days for it to pass through his system.

And thanks for the comment. He's a rather cute little guy, but my family and friends don't seem to understand why. :p

Sparkster is gorgeous and looks fine for his size.

You should be feeding him every 4-5 days. This gives him time to digest his food before eating more.

If you haven't already read it, you should read this:

It is the "Munson Plan". If you follow this when feeding Sparkster, it will keep him growing and healthy without becoming overweight.

Thanks, that looks handy! :D Maybe I was trying to feed him too soon or something. I'll start weighing him once I can get my hands on a kitchen scale or something of that nature.

I think I'll post it on my fridge whiteboard for future reference. :)
