After we had finished dinner tonight, my son went up and got his corn out. Brought it downstairs where we were sitting, still at the dinner table. After a while, decided to try and feed her on the table. What a well brought up snake!! She downed two fuzzies right there off the table with the four of us watching! Amazing to watch, she just wasn't bothered at all.

Anyone else got a corn who sits to the table? lol :)

thats crazy!!! My bird and tegu both eat at the table occasionally but a corn eating mice at the table!!! THATS CRAZY AND COOL!!!!!

While it may seem cool, you could be putting yourself at risk for salmonella. I would disinfect the table. Search the forum for "salmonella" and you'll see why, it's not very pleasant. :puke01:

My dog eats mice that I leave out to thaw sometimes. Is that a risk for samonella?

Thanks for the advice JT. I would always follow basic hygiene, any animals on the table or anything like that results in a good clean and disinfect. She did eat the mice off kitchen roll but was slithering around on the table. Thanks for your concern :) Hands are always washed after handling as well.

Just thought that it was pretty cool she was relaxed enough to feed and not worry about us being there, makes me think we must be doing something right!!!!

Never off the dining room table, but all of mine have eaten off my chair in the living room. I always use a throw over if they are feeding downstairs, that way it can go streaght into the wash.

Adamscorn, mine always feed at the table. On kitchen roll of course then we disinfect the table afterwards, it's just so much easier to do it there though.

You're welcome, though I was actually directing it towards RA. :) You definitely have a good thing going with your snake to be comfortable enough to feed like that. I have one that needs complete secrecy, and will only eat in her viv. Grrrrrr... And another that I think would eat hanging upside down. lol They all have their little quirks, it's fun getting to know their individual personalities. :wavey:

Our littlest one, Melony, used to grab her pink, haul it out of her delicup and eat it right on the coffee table. We have since cured her of this, but it was rather entertaining, especially the first few times.

We also were obsessive about disinfecting after this occured.

Here's a pic of her chowing down on the coffee table. Sorry the pic is dark, but if we used the flash it reflected off the glass table, and totally washed out the whole pic.

Katie, That's a very cool picture.
I think it's great that the snakes are comfortable enough to eat from the table. And, YES, I kiss my big boy Spot all the time. Haven't gotten sick yet...

You're right there JT, great fun. "eat hanging upside down" LMAO

Thanks for the picture Katie, didn't get one of our girl feeding, none of us moved very much for fear of putting her off. Not sure we will make a habit of feeding at the table, it just seemed to happen that way this time. My son (who's corn it really is!) likes to try different things with her to build her confidence.

It does have advantages however, my mum says that next time they come down to see us, she and my dad are going to stay in a hotel! Doesn't like the idea of a snake in the house, never mind eating off the table!!!!!! :grin01:
