Hi All

Im thinking of getting a Melamine Vivarium (the one with the sliding doors at front)
Where will the heat mat go as im sure the heat will not go through the wooden base!
Does it go directly in the viv itself, i have a habistat mat at the moment and they say there needs to be a gap between the viv and the mat itself, also if it does go direct in the viv on the floor of the viv wont this be to hot for the snake?:shrugs:

Hello misskitty.

This is how i got the heat mat inside my Melamine vivs.

Firstly i laid the heat mat inside the vivarium and marked on the back(inside) were the wire would roughly pass through, leaving the heat mat level with the floor of the viv.

Next drill through the back of the viv were you have made the mark.

You might need to cut the plug off the wire, unless the plug has screws, in which case you can just take it off. But the chances are it will be fixed to wire. If you have to cut it off, make sure you have another plug head, to attach to the wire.

Pass the wire through the drilled hole in the back of the viv and attach the plug head to the wire. This will now work as it is supposed to.

Then you will need a ceramic tile the size of the heat mat to place on top to stop your corn from getting burned.

I got some tiles from B&Q, that are roughly the same colour as the viv(light brown). I use aspen so the tile can't be seen, as it is covered.

Hope this helps
