What a Sweet Boy

I guess this is more of a brag then anything, hehe.

Before I got my boy Keo, I was prepared for the worst when I decided I wanted a young corn; a snake that was bitey, flighty, a picky eater and hid all the time, until it grew up a bit at least. I figured I'd prepare for the worst and if I got something better, great! I certainly wasn't expecting this little guy, though.

I've had Keo for around two months now (he was 18 grams the last time I weighed him, 15 when I got him) and he's only ever struck at me once and that was because there was food around (he had dropped the mouse because he got it at the wrong spot and he tried to get out instead of find the head, so I put my hand in the way and he tried to bite me, totally my fault anyways). He's amazing to handle and totally calm after having him out for a few seconds, he doesn't even try to get away when I go to take him out or hide when I'm in the room anymore. He's not skittish when he's put down, either, I've never once had him bolt for a place to hide, he's very calm and curious and friendly.

Something I noticed the other day, as well, is despite the numerous reports I've read of corn snakes being grumpy while shedding, Keo actually seems to be MORE friendly during shedding, even when he's deep in blue he's very calm while handling, and keeps rubbing his head against my hands, trying to use me as a shedding tree, I assume. I noticed this while handling him briefly on Saturday to check and see if he was shedding (I feed him on Sundays and didn't want to feed him when he was in shed) go figure!

He's a bit of a character, too, he absolutely loves my glasses and hair. A week or so ago I had him out and he curled up in my hair with his tail curled around the arm of my glasses for over a half an hour while I just did my thing on the computer. He also only apparently poops outside of his tank when my younger sister is holding him. :grin01:

I've always loved snakes, and now owning one that's so much sweeter then I was prepared for has really got me excited about them, I'm even considering a second one, though not for a year or so still, mostly for financial reasons (I'd love to get a slightly more expensive morph, probably shipped, plus I want to upgrade Keo to a full sized tank before, so I can reuse this smaller tank). I've even thought about breeding, though that's a good 4 or 5 years off still, and I've got a LOT to learn between now and then!

I'd also like to extend a big thanks to everyone here, not just anyone that's responded to me or my questions, but everyone who has answered everyone on here and provided information for me to read. I've learned so much being on these forums and I continue to as I explore the numerous threads here. So thank you very much for that!

Finally, I can't wait until I find a camera that's better then my phone to take some nice pictures of my little boy so I can show him off better, hehe, but for now, have a picture of Keo chilling in one of his favourite places.

My newest snake loves going on top of my lips and the oldest prefers to hang around my ear.

That is very cute, at least until he poops in your hair. And believe me, he will and it will be more than messy. :)

Thanks guys, haha, Keo sticks his nose in my ear sometimes, it tickles a lot. I'm sure if I didn't have my glasses he'd probably like the rest of my face more, but my glasses are easier to hold on to. He even stretches out for my glasses/head when I'm holding him, it's adorable.

Also I always make sure he's pooped recently/doesn't have a bulge near his vent before I let him go on my head. But I bet snake poop makes great conditioner. :grin01:

Whenever my oldest sticks her head in my ear, she'll sniff inside. That's even more ticklish!

Yes, it's very ticklish, and thanks! :3

He had a perfect shed for me again yesterday and weighed/measured in at 26 grams and 19-20 inches! I fed him tonight and he used his bottom half to hang onto my hand while he ate the mouse out of his feeding container, then I just lifted him up and put him back in his tank. What a cutie :D

My Arancio will poop in or outside of the tank, he doesnt care. I think it has to do more with activity. He will be cruisng like normal and then freeze up and unleash the filth.

As far as his mood in shed, I have not noticed any difference. He has never tried to strike and was only skiddish the first few weeks i had him (partially due to my own nervousness and ignorance).

I see/hear about snappy snakes and i guess we can just count ourselves lucky. Except for being pooped on, I will never get used to that.
