I'm a new member, but am very familiar as my husband has been a member for a few years and we frequently peruse the site together. So hi everyone!

Today, my husband and I were searching Craigslist and this listing popped up. I was absolutely mortified. Someone has decided they no longer want to be bothered with caring for their corn, so they would like to get rid of it. They made the mistake of posting pictures of its "Viv" -- Its being housed in sand - it has no hides - definitely not the appropriate environment for our precious corns.

Here is a link to the listing -- I hope it works. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/for/731132230.html

This animal needs to be rescued. Anyone in the San Diego area looking to add another to their collection, please rescue this poor guy!! Unfortunately, we are at our limit right now -- and have hatchlings on the way. But everytime I think about this poor guy I get really mad! :angry01:

Thanx for listening.

I found one recently in my county that was pretty bad too. This guy snatched a wild gopher snake and has decided to sell it.. I let him know that I think it's illegal to sell wild caught out here, and he said he's scared to let it go cause it wants to kill his full grown cat. And because there's a school nearby. He asked whether I know if it's legal for him to kill it.

Sometimes you just have to look away, sad as it is..

I would highly recommend some sort of Snake rescue program or contacting some sort of SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and informing them that you feel (as an experienced herp keeper) the snake has improper living conditions and is in need of help.

Contact the seller and convince THEM to contact a Snake/reptile rescue program in their area. Maybe I'll go ahead and do a search to see what I can find out for you. (I've got a few minutes before bed, might as well do something useful)

Thanks for finding that for me. I sent an e-mail to the SDHS. Hopefully they will be able to rescue the poor guy.

Good deal.

I know I can't personally take him at the moment, especially since I'm in NC and he's in CA. But I try to keep up an awareness that there are people out there who help animals in need. I'm a big fan of the ASPCA.

Please keep us updated about him.

from the pics it appears to have good girth and tone...hopefully at the very least it was fed properly....

While the conditions as seen in the photos don't seem ideal, the snake seems perfectly healthy. There's more than one way to keep a cornsnake. I think people need to really stop and think before they consider reporting cases of suspected animal abuse to organizations such as the ASPCA. There are people out there who consider the keeping of any wild animal in captivity as cruel. If enough of them report YOU, maybe we'll all lose the privilege of keeping these animals. Think.

Well said Dean.
