What are Babies likely to look like

Got a question--got 2.2 Abbott Morph Okeetees last summer. One of the males came to me weak and unable to hold a meal down. Before I could get him checked out by a Vet he checked out and now resides wherever Corns reside after they pass on. The trio has thrived but one of the females looks nothing like an Abbott or an Okeetee for that matter. No thick borders around the blotches, nor crisp colors. In fact, she looks like an average Normal. I have known the breeder for years and he doesn't make mistakes!!! So I have two questions: 1) Could she just be a sorry Abbotts??? and 2) If she is a sorry Abbott is there a possibility of her throwing Abbott looking little ones? What say Y'all???

When you consider that an "Abbott" is just a really nice-looking line of normals, then yes, she is just a normal.

Also breeding her to an Abbott would probably just produce some more average normals. I'm not an expert but I posted a thread about the same topic and that is what I was told.

Abbott's Okeetees are a selectively bred variety of normals. With any selectively bred variety, you can breed two ideals and still get some that don't meet that ideal. You've increased the likelihood of getting the desired look, but there is no 100% guarantee. From what I've seen of Okeetee babies, you really can't tell what it's going to look like at hatching. Some say the really dark hatchlings are the "good" ones, but until you can definitely see the border and some ground color, I would be hesitant to even consider labeling it an Okeetee phase. It sounds like the one female may have been from Okeetee parents, but is the "ugly ducking" of the clutch. She may also be from locality parents, in which case, looks aren't as important. Breeding her to a male with the desired look could generate some babies that are Okeetee phase, but again, all of them won't have the look.

Yup, that's what I was afraid of. I think she is going to become someone's pet. I really want to breed the best Abbott I can to the best. She is an "ugly duckling." Too bad she's not like a Green Dragon!!!!LOL Thanks for the reply Susan!!!
