what are good breeder mates for amels

what are some good amel mates youve used and what kind of offspring have you come accross from them ?

If you have amels that aren't het for anything else (don't carry other genes that they may pass on to their offspring) then there's no way to get anything but normals and amels from them.

Depending on your amels you MIGHT have a chance to get sunglow for example if your amels have very little white on them and you breed them with a sunglow.

If you breed an amel (no hets) with any morph that doesn't include amelanistic gene, you'll only get normals that are het. for both parents' morphs. For example if you breed amel with a lavender you'll get a clutch of normal het. amel, lavender.

If you breed an amel with something that is het. for amel, you'll get normals and amels that are het. for both parents' morphs.

And if you breed an amel with something that has amelanistic genes in it - for example butter (amel+caramel) you'll get a whole clutch of amels het. caramel.

guess i wont know till its old enough to breed......and my wife lets me withought cringing at the fact of a bunch more snakes....

Oh yes, I forgot about Ultra and Ultramel. :)

If the amel is actually amel het. anery I'd try to find an Ultramel Anery to be his/her mate. By breeding Amel het. Anery with Ultramel Anery you'd be able to get:

Amel het. Anery
Snow
Ultramel het. Anery
Ultramel Anery

That's a good selection. ;)

gotta noob question but what is ment by ultra amel... my best guess offspring of 2 amels?

Ulta trait is one kind of hypomelanism that reduces the amount of black pigmentation and makes other colours stronger. Ultra gene is located in the same locus with Amelanistic gene. So if a corn has two recessive amelanistic genes (a) in that locus it's genetically aa and Amel. If it has two recessive ultra genes (u) in that same locus it's genetically uu and Ultra.

But as the genes are located in the same locus a corn can also have one amelanistic gene and one ultra gene in that locus (au). In that situation the genes are codominant and the corn is Ultramel looking like something between ultra and amel. :)

So that is what is "Ultra Amel". It just should be written "Ultramel"

Ultramel Anery is geneticaclly au nn
(n = recessive anery gene)
So it's almost the same as snow (aa nn, two amel genes and two anery genes) but instead of having two amel genes it has one amel and one ultra gene.

oh pet shop had ont like that in with mine like that same price i know what your talking bout

I would go for some amel-based morphs like Fire, Opal, Butter, Snow, or Blizzard. All of these are morphs made up of two recessive genes...amel + something else.

opal(amel + lavender)=100% amels het lavander
butter(amel + caramel)=100% amels het caramel
snow(amel + anery A)=100% amels het anery
blizzard=(amel + charcoal)=100% amels het charcoal
fire(amel + diffused)=100% amels het diffused

This is, of course, barring any unknown het. traits in the parents...

IF your amel is, in fact, het for anery, and you pair it with a snow you will get 50% amels het anery and 50% snow...

ok..well this makes me think..I plan on breeding my
Amel
66% anery, Bloodred, Hypo 50% het stripe
and his future girlfriend is
Normal/Okeetee het anery, motley, 66% het amel
what kinds of combinations can I get with these two...I am too impatient to wait and see what can be made....:crazy01:
Thanks

You *might* get anerys, you *might* get motleys, and even less likely, you *might* get snows.

Odds are mostly in favor of normals het amel.

hmmmm...does anyone think its worth it?....I'll love each and every snake that comes out...but I want to make sure that there is also a chance that someone else might as well...
I have a while to wait anyway......they are just babies..just pondering the possible outcome..
people at work call me "crazy snake lady"...I'll be that crazy old cat lady...only with a house full of snakes...lol.."Come here fluffy!"
thanks.
