What did I do wrong?

Sorry if you saw this on FR already.. I just checked on my beauty snake and he's dead... He was cruising around and he looked healthy and happy. He refused his meal Tuesday, but he was in shed so I understood. After he shed his mouth got red, and his skin started looking translucent.. I don't know what happened. I'm really bummed right now, because I don't know what I did wrong. He had water at all times, he had proper heat, humidity, everything was fine! Any help? :crying:

Sorry to hear of your loss. How old was he?
Try not to blame yourself - sometimes they just aren't meant to make it.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

What do you mean he looked healthy and happy? I just clicked on the Taiwan Beauty link in your signature. It sounded like a crappy experience to me. You seemed resigned to the fact that he was going to die in that thread. Am I missing something?

Anyway - that's the breaks when you buy a snake I guess. I bought one from a breeder (more of a broker) at a show against my better judgement. She had snakes cohabitating and everything. I brought the snake home and it had a nasty parasite infection and died. It's a crappy lesson, but teaches you to pay attention to who you're buying from.

I don't know how old he was, maybe 6-7 months tops. I don't understand WHY though. Just saying "Some aren't ment to make it" doesn't explain it. Why would he be fine then all of a sudden die?

why not get a necropsy done? I'm sure a vet could answer that question a lot better (well, some could. Make sure you go to a reptile savvy one)

He did have a crappy start and I thought he was going to die, but then he got better and now he actually DID die. :shrugs: At the beginning he had shed stuck in his nostrils and when he shed he could breathe again, I thought it was RI but it was only that.
The breeder I bought him from said he's always in the same place at Hamburg, maybe i could somehow make it there and meet the guy. I think I know who it is, but I don't want to jump out right now because he has a good rep.

SR, do you know if it was a wild caught snake or captive born? You said his mouth was red. Can you explain that a little more?

Sucks when you try your best and one dies. Sorry to hear that.

Sorry to hear about your lose...the snake musta been in some sort of not visual pain and it is better that the pain is over for it. Time to move on and I hope for your future snakes to have longer lives and joyful ownership.

I'm so sorry to hear that....But like it was said sometimes this happens...Unknown origins are the problems with this hobby.....A few years more experiance, on both sides can make all the difference.... Don't beat yourself up over this.....I know that is easy for me to say, being remote to this, but ..........

What I meant was, sometimes they can have problems which we just don't recognise. Some sort of internal disorder. Maybe even something genetic, who knows? :shrugs: Unless you want to get involved in having your vet run tests and so on, you will probably never know.

I'll try to get some pictures up later, my camera died on me while taking some.
Thanks guys for the kind words... I'll see if I can make it to Hamburg and see if the people are there...

Paulina, I highly doubt it was something you caused i've spoken to you quite a few times and i have no reason to believe it was caused by your husbandry.

Sorry to hear about your beauty snake though, he looked great in the photos. Hope you can find out what happened.
