I live i a town where the power can go out the longest it has been out is 16 days and i live in a apartment so i cant get a gas generator but i do have a gas stove.

Keep tank lids/doors closed and ony open them to replace water/spot clean when absolutely necessary. Insulate by covering them with old towels and bedding. Make sure the tanks are away from doors, windows and draughts. As you'll be able to heat water, you could put a lukewarm (not hot) and well-wrapped hot water bottle in one end of the tank and replace it a couple of times a day.

For short term outtages you can use one of those battery backup surge protectors. I have one for my computer that gives me 30 minutes of back up. At the time I got this I could have gotten one with one hour but did not want that much.

Or do you have windows? You could look into a solar generator or something of that sort to power the heat for the viv.

Your snakes are fine this time of year without heat as long as you don't feed them. But if you had just fed them when the power went out, the water bottle idea sounds good. In winter, it might be more of an issue, obviously. You can use the water bottle and/or those little hand/foot warmer packs with the wrapping of the viv. You can also get one of those back up power supplies that you would use for camping or starting your car.

It was mentioned above but I purchased a few bulks packs of the hand/foot warmers to use just in case. The shelf life I believe is a few years (unopened of course) and they were pretty inexpensive.

You could just put them in your pockets and down your shirt :D you body heat will keep them warm. But seriously I would go with heat packs

I was thinking of the same dilemma and now have a few solutions. I bought some of the battery powered heated socks that are designed for hunters. They use one D batter each and last a few hours. Another option I would use is buying a 12 volt converter that plugs into the cigarette adapter in your car. I got one at Fred Meyer for about 20 bucks. You can plug any regular electrical plug into it. Like the others also said I too keep a good stock of hand warmer chemical packs.
