confused: what do i need to start of my aquariun for my corn what temp do i use in it, do i have a place hotter than other places i need help????

well

First you need to visit lots of online caresheets (easily found in any search engine) and read The Cornsnake Manual by Kathy Love.

A corns tank should consist of two secure hiding spots appropriately sized for the cornsnake. One in the cool end and one in the hot end.

Yes you need a hotter area. One side of the tank needs to be 82-86 degrees, and the other needs to stay at room temp basically so the corn can cool off if he wants.

You need a water dish, the hides, undertank heating pad for the warm spot, secure- no actually- a VERY secure lid as they are escape artists.

Please don't use Pine or Cedar. Cedar is very toxic to snakes and my personal opinion is that Pine is too.

Like bmm said read some care sheets and get the Corn Snake Manual by Bill & Kathy Love.

If you look at people's signatures on here, and visit their web site, you'll find help and advice about what you need. For example there are some basic guidelines on my site, and lots of links to other sites by experts.

You should visit a few as each one is usually only an opinion of the particular author.

I too would recommend buying the corn snake manual - an excellent book.

Yes, good advice from my forum friends

I don't think you necessarily need a heat lamp, but use a heat pad on the bottom 1/3 to 1/2 of the tank. Lots of people here use aspen chips and I like them too, but you could also use just newspaper or paper towel for the floor of the tank. The aspen is nice becuz they can burrow and hide in it.

Two hides, and a good sized water dish, and yes, a very secure lid. (One of my snakes escaped once, but I was lucky and found her.)

No corn snake owner should be without the Cornsnake Manual - you'll refer to it often as the months go by. Always lots of info here and on other websites.

Good luck - corn snakes are the best!! :)

yes

Aspen or even plain old newspaper are good choices. Do NOT use cedar or pine. Ever. These can be dangerous to your snake.
Good luck with the new snake!

The first thing I bought before I even purchased my first cornsnake was "The cornsnake manual" by Kathy Love. THIS IS A MUST!!

grrr I'm a hungry hungry bear

and don't use sand,..

just think of where corns live in the wild (forests) and try to reproduce it in your tank...without all the bugs and rotting dead stuff and chipmunks and bears

i was always told to avoid wood chips till at leat a year old.. especially if yo uare feeding the snake in the viv... they are prone to swallowing wood... as a substrate I'd recomend astro turf or fake grass you get in a grocers.... clean it obviously.... or if you want the boring look.. paper towels...

but read a few books first.. dont get a snake and then worry about how to look after it. do research.... too many people don't..
