What does a head pattern say about a snake?

I hope this has not been posted too recently, I did search for the subject, but came up rather empty. So....

What can a head pattern tell you about a certain snake?
Can it tell you anything about heritage?
Can you determine pure from "outcrossed"?
Can it help determine hets?
OR on the flip side...
What can a LACK of head pattern tell you?

Or are they just too variable to determine, anything from?

Any thoughts?

I noticed in my own corns that many offspring in a clutch if not all shared a similar head pattern and from parent to offspring.

I don't think it is related to anything else though.

Get yourself a copy of "The Corn Snake Morph Guide". It has a whole section on head patterns and it's a great resource on genetics as well. The book is publish by a local (to we midwesterner) guy, Charles Pritzel. It is full of color photos of the morphs and pattern variations. He updates it yearly. Worth having a copy in your library.
