What does it feel like when.....

What does it feel like when a corn bites ya?

Ive managed to avoid it so far and was just wondering when it happens (and it will happen) is it extremely painful or just like getting a jab from the hospital?

Depends on the size of the snake. Hatchlings to yearlings are nothing unless they hang on and chew, but a defensive bite feels like a wire brush scraping you, An adult corn bite kind of feels like being jabbed by a bunch of pins. Their teeth are small and they really can't exert any pressure to speak of. At least in my experience, there may be others who have felt a much harder bite.
All in all the quick striking movement is way worse than the actual bite

i think it just scares you more than anything. afterwards i have always found myself chuckling. they really think they are tough sometimes!!! LOL

I ALWAYS laugh at mine when they get defensive, it helps relieve the fear of actually getting bit. Now if I had a snake with a little more formidable fangs, I might be a little afraid, but corns?? nahh...no sweat.

i have only been biten by hatchlings and if you dont see it you would never know it bit you.
adults, though i have never been biten. ive done well with avoiding that. mine are quite dosile.
:)

I've been bitten by an adult childrens python (which drew blood) but the only other bites I've received have been from hatchlings (corn and king) Hatchling bites don't hurt in the slightest but they still make me jump!! I have a female I bought as an adult who has gaped her mouth at me and s-coiled up and she's also nose-butted me whilst rattling her tail but she's never tried to make tooth contact with me. She's settled right down now and only rattles her tail a little if I bother her when she's eating.

Once Bitten...

I have been bitten by a king and a rosey boa and while they did not really hurt it was the "hey, you bit me" that set in.
My buddies full grown corn bit him on the fingertip and drew blood. Was not really that painfull at all though.

I didn't know my corn had ahold of me until I turned my head and saw her with her mouth on my wrist. After she let go it kinda stung a little, like a cat scratch. Hurts alot less than a tattoo!

To me if feels like this:

Take a wooden clothes pin, glue sandpaper to the inside of the clampy mouth parts. Clamp it to your finger.

Some of the bigger snakes have left an abrasion from their teeth, but you couldn't really call it a cut. It just feels kind of annoying like a papercut. Blackberry thorns do more damage than corn bites.

I've had a northern watersnake (somewhat like a corn) slap me on the wrist with the inside of its mouth. Felt and looked like a bunch of needles scratching my skin. It bled a little.

I've always heard that the worst part of a (nonvenomous) snakebite is when you jerk your hand back, the teeth scratch you. Otherwise they just leave little pinholes at best. I knew a naturalist at the nature center near me that would let snakes bite him and he didn't jerk his hand, so they did nearly no damage. Good luck trying to fight the urge to yank your hand back though. That instict runs pretty deep.

I've only been bitten by two snakes. One was an adult garter, and the other was a GTP... both bled, but neither hurt. It was odd, but it was almost like a burning sensation. i don't know if it's something in the saliva or what, but it was not at all what I expected.

I've been biten by hatchlings and by my kingsnake...

the hatchlings don't even make real contact, it's more like a pecking or nosing... but the kingsnake, that's another story... he clamped on and proceeded to enjoy the mock-meal until I could figure out how to get him off without hurting him.

The first time he bit me was when he was only a few months old.. I didn't even know he had bitten me until I moved my hand and he was still hanging there...
now that he is a bit bigger it does sting a bit but he doesn't just tag and let go, he gets a grip and hangs on... he can be a mean little bugger! he brought blood the last time, but it wasn't like a cut or anything it was like everyone else stated... more like pinholes... and I seem to remember it burning/stinging more than hurting...

I agree with everyone else.... I think it's more the shock factor than the bite itself...
