our baby corn snake, which we'd only had for a couple of weeks, was fine until a few nights ago. He refused to eat. when we took a closer look at him he has strange folds of excess skin running down either side of his tail. He also had two small hard bumps on his back. I was concerned about him but decided to give it a day or two and try to feed him again. The next night my boyfriend found him dead in his water dish. I was so upset I didn't know what to do. What could have happened to him? My boyfriend wants to get another but Im afraid to until I know what went wrong with our first. Any ideas?

p.s. he was a gift and was bought from petco...could that have something to do with it?

Hard to say what when wrong. Petco or any pet chain store you have to be carefull of what you buy.
The lumps??? :shrugs: tumors :shrugs: Who knows. The folded skin could be from dehydration :shrugs:. You could put the snake in the fridge until a vet can look at it. I wouldn't waste the money tho. I would think that the snake was ill before you got it. If you want another one, try looking for a local breeder and/or check out this site for one and buy one one line.
here a list of links that will help. In there somewhere is a list of breeders you can look at.
Good Luck.

several of your links don't work
you have to be sure to copy the entire url not just the shortened version that the forum displays
anything up there with a ... will not work

I have to agree that something was probably wrong with it before you got it. The hard bumps on the back don't sound good, but I couldnt' hazard a guess as to what they were. I know it's small comfort, but I don't think you really did anything wrong. Go ahead and get another, but see if you have a herp show near you. You'll get a better snake and a better deal there.
