What is an ASF?

Two Corns and Growing!
I've been hearing alot about ASFs and honestly don't know the difference between them and mice. Can anyone tell me and enlighten me on this subject I've heard they breed longer are twice as big, and can jump higher. Are they actual mice? or a completely different species? I would greatly appreciate any information given.

ASF = African soft furred rat. They are a completley different species than mice or our norweigen rats. Mine average 15ish per litter sometimes a little more or less. The adults get about twice the size of mice, they have very little odor compared to mice/rats and are fairly easy to care for. I have seen them breed at 3 months old (compared to 6 weeks for mice) and sometimes as long as 4 months before they start but then its pretty steady pinks every 3 weeks. I honestly don't know how long before they slow down, once they start putting out less than 7 or 8 at a time they are "retired". The pinks are larger than mouse pinks and usually have a little hair at birth. They are cute little buggers but they don't like to be held, mine will let me pet them while they walk around the tub but if i pick one up it will jump regardless of how high up it is and if restrained will bite. Yes they are "spring loaded" and can jump really well .

Here is one of my ASF, she is very pregnant, she looks like she's going to explode.
This is one fat evil rat!
