What is happening to my lovely corn??

Cornflake1

The Crazy Snake Lady! :-)
Hi guys!!

My adult female classic corn, who is usually very placid, lovely to hold and is well, the perfect corn really, has really upset me and I'm worried!!

I just went into the snake room, I was in there about 5mins when all of a sudden she launched herself at the side of her viv (not in an attack sort of way) just launched, then went crazy all over the viv!! Hitting all sides and glass! She has never done anything like this before. It was like something had really upset her. I hadn't done anything that would have caused her to jump or feel threatened. She soon stopped, then within afew minutes, she did it again. So I opened the glass door and she shot out at me, not in an aggressive way. I held her (just to check that physically she was ok) but she just was so distressed I put her back in and she stopped and seems to be ok.

What would cause this behaviour, it's so unlike her???

Thanks in advance!!

Well, I am starting to learn a good bit about corns myself, but my first thought when I read this was either what Nanci said or perhaps she's wanting to breed...

Have you put anything new in her viv lately?

Is it possible you had some sort of scent on you that disturbed it? Were u around any weird food or other animals before you went to get your corn? This is complete speculation, but it makes sense that it could happen!

Check the temps.
High temps are always my first double-check in this situation as well.

Is it possible you had some sort of scent on you that disturbed it?
I remember a few years ago some perfumes/colognes were thought to contain pheramones that snakes interpreted as a threat. I think CK1 was one of the offenders.

Have you (or anyone else in the house) changed to a new brand recently? Or maybe started using a different air freshener or room spray somewhere in the house?

I had a snake do that when I lived in our old apt. I went and inspected her viv and found a few just regular house (piss ants) had found their way into her viv for her water dish. Check for bugs.

Thanks guys!! Well nothing haschanged with her temps and she's not in shed. But the reason I didn't reply last night was it happened just before I was due to go out, so I kinda posted in a rush with worry then went. So as there were some people round who were also ready to go out and the snake room door was open.....then the perfume/aftershave thing could well be a possibility??? Very strange!! I've not heard of that before!! Would that not affect all of them though? I only have 1 adult female corn, the other females are about 1yr old.

Thanks for all your replies...I shall definitly bear that in mind in the future!! xx
