What is Pearl?

Hi guys. This is my first post on the forum. I was wondering if someone could tell me what a "pearl" corn is, like what morphs are combined to create it. If anyone has a picture of one, that would also be cool. Thanks.

I think that Pearl was used before the name Opal became popular. Its mentioned in Kathy Love's CS Manual(at least the first edition) on pg 110. It is the amel form of Lavender.

Last I heard, Pearl was a name being used for an Amelanistic Lavender that was mostly white in color. I haven't heard that name being used much though.

P.S. I hate when that happens! ;)
You beat me to it.

I'm pretty sure Tim Rainbucket was the one using that name.

I believe that some people are also referring to an amel corn x Leucistic rat as a Pearl Corn. That would mean they are a hybrid so just make sure of the genetics and history before you buy so you get what you want.

I believe that but there are ads on Kingsuck for Pearl corns that the guy states are the hybrids. I was just throwing it out there because it could end up as one of those terms that gets confusing.

Best I can determine, the "Pearl" Corn is a form of Amelanistic Lavender. I see some distinct variation in the Opals whereby some are definitely pink in color, whereas others look pretty much like regular Snow corns. Even with the Lavenders themselves, there is a marked variation in how they look, with some looking kind of brownish colored (aka "Mocha") whereas some look a lot like odd looking Ghost corns.

To give you an idea of what I am referring to, I have attached a couple of photos of some Lavender Motleys. Notice the distinctly different look in this one clutch. Also notice the eye color. As far as what exactly this means, beats me. From what I have seen, they both turn out looking pretty much the same as adults, and I don't mark the records as to one being grayer or browner as a baby. :shrugs:

I guess I should show what I mean by the Opals as well. This is a photo of two snakes from the same clutch, one being an Opal and the other an Opal Motley. Notice the distinct difference in coloration.
