What makes a good bloodred

Furian

Still an egg
Hey guys, I'm about to acquire my first snake which will certainly be a Bloodred, and since the juvenile state is so different from what they look like when they reach adult size, I would like to know if there's a good way to choose a juvenile bloodred so that it becomes what we can expect it to be : a nice "pure" red one.

Bloodred

I heard that the babies with the most grey on the head, and less pattern. I don't know if this 100% sure, but the man who helps don soderberg told me this at a convention. Hope that helps you,

thanks for the quick reply, if that works it's a nice and simple way to spot the best candidate :D

Good Bloodreds usually make good Bloodreds. ;) I agree to watch for grey heads and "diffused" side patterns, but one of the best things to look at is the BREEDING STOCK. Ask for pics of the parents and only accept hatchlings from the best parents. I have had some that didn't have very grey heads as hatchlings, but turned out great as adults. Some can really have some great coloring to them even though they are young, however, the coloring will be restricted to the saddles. It's an all around approach but the appearance of the parents is very important. Good Luck! :)

I absolutely agree with Carol. Be sure to at least see photos of the parents and if at all possable see them in person. I used to work with Bloodreds years ago. Back then it was relatively simple. But now a days it is a differant story. The Bloods have been so out-crossed that it is next to imposable to predict what hatchlings (sometimes even yearlings) are going to look like with out knowing their background. That is why I have just now got my first pair of Bloodreds :dancer: after 2+ years of looking for some. Then again I was very particular about what I wanted :crazy02:

well the only way for me to get one is to wait for a reptile convention that's going to open in paris the 1st and 2nd of october. Hopefully the cornsnake breeders will have some info and not just the animals "for sale". Otherwise i'll have to close my eyes and use the force I guess heh...

Bloodreds

There are the "hypo" Bloodreds and they have a more white looking head as babies. I have never seen one of these and this is what I was told about them. If this is wrong please correct me...But I bought both of my bloodreds from south mountain reptiles, and they both have grey heads. I agree with carol as well as seeing pictures. I was lucky that don had the parents of his bloods at the convention. My were they beautiful. I hope my get even half that nice!!!

Julien,

Has the Paris show started advertising yet? A lot of times a show will list the vendors attending, and a contact number or better yet their website. That would be a great way to see their breeding stock and what they may be bringing to the expo :*)

thanks for your answers guys =)
The expo will start tomorrow, I looked on the official website but didn't find anything about the peoples exposing there (it will be a global theme exposition with all the animals you can think about...).
I know that there's a shop near my place that will be there and it's selling a few bloodreds (90€).

Perhaps I should go see if they look good and buy one before tomorrow's expo, or I'm pretty sure I'll miss my chance :p (oh my god what if they're already out of bloodreds! *poops pants*)

I'll keep you in touch
