I have a young corn, my roommate has a Leopard Gecko...

We are looking into getting a new reptile.

We were thinking a bearded dragon..

Not a frog, not a turtle, not another snake...
So basically some kind of lizard..

AND RECOMMENDATIONS!?!?!!?

I like all lizards, but for a beginner lizard I suggest a Crested Gecko, Fat Tailed Gecko(like a Leopard Gecko) or a Bearded Dragon. Bigger lizards tend to be harder to care for. Good luck picking out a new pet.

Are there any alternatives to bearded dragons then, like still meaner looking, but not HUGE. Less than a 60 gallon tank or so

If your looking for a lizard that can live in a 60 gllon or less tank and is 1-3ft and looks "meaner" then a Bearded Dragon is your best bet. Any other lizards I can think of at the moment need large enclosures.

You can always get yourself an Ackie spiney Monitor (Varanus Acanthuras ). they can be kept in a 40 gallon breeder.

Something between 1-3 feet

You know, I would have assumed you have a more mature way to request a different species.

If you want a new lizard this is by far the wrong reason to get one. There are many lizards out there that will fit what you want but may not have the experience to work with the animals.

Just a couple of ideas. I would say a frilled lizard...but they need a fairly giant enclosure (something like 4'h x 3'w). Perhaps a chameleon...though they have few more care requirements than corns and leopard geckos (concerning uva/uvb, heat, humidity, etc...). Basilisks are interesting...but they'll also eventually need bigger than a 40 gallon. There is also the blue tongue skink which i think can be kept in a 55 gallon...though bigger is always better.

Whatever you decide on just make sure you research the care of it...and don't get something on pure looks alone...get something that will work for you.

bearded dragons are really fun, my dad and i have one and they are extreamly tame, and are very friendly and love attention. They need a lot of care though
