What should I be feeding my corn snake at his current size?

I can't weigh him because he's a little demon and won't let you get within 10 inches of him...not to mention I don't have a scale that would weigh something as light as him. Right now I'm feeding him a hopper every 7 days, he is taking them fairly well and always keeps them down. What do you guys think?

I hope those are okay, in the second photo he is right next to printer paper so you kind of get the idea.

You really should get a scales, there is a food chart out there that tells you what a snake of a certain weight should be eating. If you get the scales, you just weigh the container then weigh him in it to get his weight. I know you said you can't catch him but even if he tries to bite it shouldn't hurt that bad. I got a new baby and he is only 10 gms but he was repeatedly biting me and it didn't hurt.

I never weigh my snakes. On corns, just look at the body at its widest and feed a food item 1 to 1 1/2 times the widest part of its body.

Yeah, a corn bite doesn't hurt at all, just show him who is boss and grab him! It's the only way he'll calm down. If he's eating hoppers just fine and you can see a lump in his belly for 24-36 hours after feeding then it is appropriate sized prey.

Ok, so if the lump goes away within 24 hours should I up feeding? Mine were gone the next day if I remember right last time they ate. they all ate today except one.

I agree with Ali - grab him and show him you are the boss. My new one has settled down so much already. He won't hurt you. He wants to scare you and apparently it's working!

If it goes away in 24 hours he should be okay, but you're going to be upping feeding pretty soon. It also has to do with what size you gave them, like if I give mine two fuzzies instead of a single hopper the lump is gone pretty quickly as well, whereas the hopper is more prominent for a day.

Hello there, This is how I have learnt to feed my George, THE MUNSON PLAN.. works well for me! You NEED of course to get your feed weighed. or take your own scales to your shop when you purchase, my guy is used to me getting scales out now lol.. BUT IT WORKS!!!

Sue I hope this helps xxxx

When they're on single pinks (2-3g),
I feed every 4-5 days.................. ...( Snake = 4-15g )

Double pinks (3g x 2)
every 4-5 days................ .............( Snake = 16-23g )

Small fuzzies (5-7g)
every 5-6 days. ............................( Snake = 24-30g )

Regular fuzzies (7-9g)
every 5-6 days.............. ...............( Snake = 30-50g )

Hoppers (9-12g)
every 5-6 days .............................( Snake = 51-90g )

Weaned (14-20g)
every 7 days................................ ( Snake = 91-170g )

Adult (24-30g)
every 7-x days .............................( Snake = 170+ )

Jumbo Adults (40-50g)
every 7-x days .............................( Snake = 400g+ )

Note: Adult females are fed more
frequently than adult males (especially following brumation). Females are fed
every 6-8 days; males are fed every 7-14 days.

This is by no means
scientific, and not all corns will cooperate 100% with the schedule. The weight
ranges I gave for the prey and snakes are approximate. I'm very consistent in my
feedings. Some people feed every Saturday, for example. If they get a refusal,
the snake has to wait for the next Saturday to get another shot. I don't do
this. If a snake refuses today, he'll get another shot in two days

I've been keeping and breeding Corn Snakes for over 20 years and I've never weighed one. There's no need to. If you feed the snake a food item that is as wide as the thickest part of the snake's body, then it's a good size. Younger snakes seem to digest food faster (probably because they're using the food's energy for growth) than adult snakes. I think you can feed your snake every 5 days instead of every 7. Small, frequent meals are easier for the snake to digest than larger, infrequent meals.

i have a question, how do you know they are eating enough?

I have the same question. I feed my baby 1 pinky every week (had her for about a month) - I don't know about weight but she is roughly 14-16" long. I just fed her like 10 minutes ago and there is a small bump in her - but it's almost unnoticeable when she is stretched all the way out.
