I've only got one snake, but I rekon it's best to get them young (mine was about 2 months old and 12" long)
This way you can "bond" with them as they grow and get to know them. I done this with Suzy and amazed how much I've grown fond of him! Last week, for example, he ate his first fuzzy - it's like a milestone in his life
If you want to breed them you'd be best getting a larger one. I was in no rush for a big snake and have no regrets in getting Suzy.
It's also handy if friends/family are scared of them, it gives them a chance to hold a snake that looks less scary.
Perhaps someone with more snakes may have a different opinion.
in my own opinon i would have to agree with whiffin. in that its best to get a young corn. just make sure that when you get your corn that it is healthy and feeding well. remember to ask the pet store or whoever you ge your corn from all kinds of questions. do yourself a big favor and read as many care sheets as you can. also try to get a hold of the cornsnake manual by bill and kathy love. that book can teach you a lot of things about corns and it will also tell you what you need for your new friend. here is a few sites for care sheets on corns and also one to order the corn snake manual which i strongly recommend you read.
www.corn-utopia.com for the purchase of the cornsnake manual it will be the best $10 you could spend and
