What size of tubs for adult corns?

Camille

Herper Wife
Hey guys i was just woundering what would be a good size of tub for an adult corn. i want to build a rack system for about 9 corns maybe even more. i have 4 at the moment and one is going to be a very big boy(hes 3 almost 4 feet and only a year old!) and someone offered me 2 adult females and an adult male(hes currently missing though). and i have my eye on a couple more snakes :p. i know about flexwatt and att the rest the only thing im not shure about is what size of tubs i need. ive been going from store to store and buying nothing because i wasnt shure.

slightly off topic:

Here's what I don't get. Most people say you shouldn't keep an adult corn in anything smaller than a 20 gallon aquarium. But people with racks keep their snakes in much smaller containers.

20 gallon aquarium = 80 quarts. That's almost 3 times the size of a 28 quart rubbermaid (which is 7 gallons).

You are thinking about volume of the container/viv, not about the ground space/bottom area. A 20 gallon long aquarium is ~30"x12", which equals 360sq" of ground space. A 28qt/30l rubbermaid/sterilite/iris tub is ~23"x17", which equals 391sq" of ground space. **Just a note here: Those were the given dimensions (rounded up slightly) printed on the Iris tubs I use; however, the sides do taper slightly inward towards the bottom, so the dimensions are more like 21"x15", which equals 315sq" of ground space. Ideally, low-profile 56 qt tubs would be best, but the 28qt tubs do give a similar amount of ground space when compared to a 20 gal long. Remember, corn snakes are not arboreal. They will climb if given the chance, but by nature they do prefer to be on or below the substrate in seclusion. I hope this clears things up.
