WHAT THE HECK??? Does the addiction ever end???

I had no snakes 6 months ago. I got one corn, and swore that was all I wanted. 10 corns later, I fell in love with subocs, and decided that 4 of those was IT. The END. I went to a little reptile expo in Arlington with the intention of getting SUPPLIES ONLY, and flipped over a Cali King high white (it's white with a black Transformer-looking design on its head...?). I was so proud of myself when I was able to walk away without buying one! And what do I do? Get a BALL PYTHON instead!!! Do they have a 12-step program for snake-owners?

If they do, please give me the number... hi, my name is Laura and I'm addicted to reptiles. So no, from what I can tell the addiction doesn't end!! I started with one ball python 18 months ago, and now up to 23 pythons and colubrids - plus a 6-egg BP clutch in the incubator. Wow.

P.S. Now, you know you must feed our addiction to snake pictures... share that new Ball with us! :p

4 years ago I started with a cornsnake...
Since then I had around 8 cornsnakes(which I sold), a California Kingsnake(sold), 4 L.mexicana hybrids(sold), Green Tree Python(sold), LTR- still with me! :), Ball Python (sold), and now... 4.5 boas which I adore.(I went through tons of animals before realizing what I really wanted- BCI).

So... no, the addiction grips us tightly... I came to realize you're better off embracing it... and sometimes indulge it rather than try and keep it contained... else it tends to burst through you, and you wallet to boot!

Mine ended when money and family came to play.
But the butt heads here are still putting up Corn Snakes for Sale up just to tease me.

Everyday I come here and see them....It kills me!!!:headbang:

lol

Hm, no. I got a corn in Feb, got another in April, and am itching for a new one. Thinking about a ball python. I need something that just sits there; corns are jumpy.

Well, then a Ball would be the right choice! Sometimes I have to poke mine, just to make sure they're still alive... LOL. :poke:

The girl that I bought my first snake from (she is now a good friend), she has 21 snakes in tanks all over her house, and hers are corns, milks and kings. My daughter said, "Mom, let's not get that many snakes." I told her, "Oh, don't worry. We're just getting this one. And if we get 1 or 2 more, they will only be cornsnakes." Famous last words. Now I'm 6 snakes behind my friend, and am already considering that Cali king I saw, and a pastel ball python that's for sale near my house. I keep hoping I'll go to the caresheet for one of these snakes and it'll say "Not for beginners, difficult to care for" because then I wouldn't be interested. I can't get a complicated animal. Unfortunately, everything I like is easy to care for and would fit right into my setup.

HAH! It only ended for me when I decided I physically couldn't do it any more and just had to retire. But I really do regret the fact that I am missing another hatching season right now.... That was always an unbelievable amount of fun and excitement.

Rich you are like the alcoholic that goes to the bar to watch people drink.

I left the hobby for three years by force of will. No websites, no shows, I even lost touch with friends that were still in the hobby because I thought the temptation would be to great. Then I received Serpenco's newsletter and the dam broke. 33 snakes in a 18 months and that includes 6 months of down time for medical leave plus I have 6 clutches in the cooker.
