what to breed with a snow?

I hope this is in the right place. We have had our snow corn dio for about 4 weeks now. There is a reptile show locally next weekend and we are thinking of picking up another snake there to breed them when they are older. What would you suggest to bred with a snow and what are the possible outcomes. I'm still new to this so I'm not sure on the whole genetics thing. We picked him up from petsmart so I have no idea about the parents to give you any info on them. Any and all comments welcome. Thanks in advance.

Snow x Snow = Snow
Snow x Anery = Anery het Snow
Snow x Amel = Amel het Snow
Snow x Anery het Amel = Anery's and Snows
Snow x Amel het Anery = Amels and Snows
Snow x Normal het Snow = Normals, Amels, Anery's, and Snows

Just some possibilities

possible males for your girl

I've got an anery motley het hypo '07 male for sale I can bring to the St. Louis show if you'd like. I've got others I could bring too. I can send a list if interested. One of my males for sale is a caramel stripe. He'd give you interesting normal multi het babies...Normals het amel anery caramel stripe = normals het butter stripe/anery - I think there's a better name for that.

A mating of two of the offspring would yield a longshot at butter stripes, but fun none the less

Male = het. Amel, het. Anery, het. Caramel, het. Stripe
Female = het. Amel, het. Anery, het. Caramel, het. Stripe

Offspring predicted as:

---------------------------------------------------
81/256 Normal(66% poss. het. Amelanistic, 66% poss. het. Anerythristic, 66% poss. het. Caramel, 66% poss. het. Stripe)
27/256 Amelanistic (66% poss. het. Anerythristic, 66% poss. het. Caramel, 66% poss. het. Stripe)
27/256 Anerythristic (66% poss. het. Amelanistic, 66% poss. het. Caramel, 66% poss. het. Stripe)
9/256 Amelanistic, Anerythristic (66% poss. het. Caramel, 66% poss. het. Stripe)
27/256 Caramel (66% poss. het. Amelanistic, 66% poss. het. Anerythristic, 66% poss. het. Stripe)
9/256 Amelanistic, Caramel (66% poss. het. Anerythristic, 66% poss. het. Stripe)
9/256 Anerythristic, Caramel (66% poss. het. Amelanistic, 66% poss. het. Stripe)
3/256 Amelanistic, Anerythristic, Caramel (66% poss. het. Stripe)
27/256 Stripe (66% poss. het. Amelanistic, 66% poss. het. Anerythristic, 66% poss. het. Caramel)
9/256 Amelanistic, Stripe (66% poss. het. Anerythristic, 66% poss. het. Caramel)
9/256 Anerythristic, Stripe (66% poss. het. Amelanistic, 66% poss. het. Caramel)
3/256 Amelanistic, Anerythristic, Stripe (66% poss. het. Caramel)
9/256 Caramel, Stripe (66% poss. het. Amelanistic, 66% poss. het. Anerythristic)
3/256 Amelanistic, Caramel, Stripe (66% poss. het. Anerythristic)
3/256 Anerythristic, Caramel, Stripe (66% poss. het. Amelanistic)
1/256 Amelanistic, Anerythristic, Caramel, Stripe

I would breed your snow with an ultamel anery, that way your offspring will be 50/50 split snows and ultramel anerys. good luck with what ever you choose

Good choice, but I was thinking more of pairing the snow with an ultra het anery, which would produce 50% ultramels het anery and 50% ultramel anerys.

that would be a sweet pairing. seems a lot harder to find a ultra compared to an ultramel though.

actually the only ultras ive seen for sale are from kjun. and im not sure if hes taking deposits anymore.

good pair though if you find an ultra het anery. if you got an ultramel het anery pretty sure youd get

25% ultramel anerys
25% ultramel het anery
25% amel het anery
25% snow

rich z (serpenco) has an 07 golddust het anery for 150 i think. that might be interesting could ultimately make carmel snows and anery golddusts

I also am thinking about breeding my female snow

I have a female snow that I just warmed up and I am thinking of breeding her again. Last year I bred her with an amel/amel anery/+ and she gave us half and half amels and snows. We had no trouble placing all that we were willing to give up. Have a look:

http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70997

This year we are thinking of setting her up with this guy who is reported to be a "triple het". Presumably amel/+, anery/+ and ?/+. It would be fun to get some anerys and who knows what. We may be able to find out what the 3rd mutation is.

What do you think of him? I like the bright white between the saddles.

The OP didn't specify he wanted an easy-to-find mate, just what would be a good one. ;)

Good answer but not completely correct...

Snow X Anery = 100% Anery het Amel. Because Snow is homozygous anery, you cannot get any non-anery offspring.
Snow X Amel = 100% Amel het Anery. Again, Snow is homozygous amel, so there will not be any non-amel offspring.

My personal choice (based on liking "rainbow clutches" with the greatest possible variety of offspring AND known hets) would be something like a Normal Motley or Normal Stripe het for Anery and Amel - all offspring would be at least guaranteed het for "Snow Stripe" - and you'd get some Anery, some Amel and some Snow too.

well i guess you got me there susan :)

would be cool with the ultra het anery or an ultra anery. since she is so young would be a great time to pick up one of the above mentioned males. since you have to grow up your snow anyways

.

You're right...I was just whipping though and not using my brain to full capacity. I'll go fix now :)
