we have a male okeetee, and a female 'super' creamsicle. i unfortunately have no background info on these (the guy we purchased them from didn't even know hatching dates). however, he's apparently a 'respectable' source for reptiles in this area.
just wondering what we might get, i don't need a definate answer... just guesses. :shrugs:

Normals, unless both are het for the same thing.

a really good way to figure out what you will get from pairings is by using teh following: MP Genetics Wizard Brought to us by Marcel Poots.

Guess I didn't take into account that one of them was a hybrid.

i thought hybrids were sterile? or are they close enough that they can still reproduce? and i'm also not 100% sure what het amel means? :)
thnx
*edit: also, that breed app doesn't seem to be a valid zip. anywhere else its posted?

Not all hybrids are sterile.

het Amel means that the offspring of this particular crossing, if bred back to eachother will produce amel corn/emoryi hybrids (creamsicles).

Some hybrids are sterile, but creamsicles (and jungle corns = cali king X corn) tend to be very fertile. Creamsicles are a cross between an emoryi's ratsnake and an amelanistic corn. Being "het" for a trait means that the snake does not exhibit that trait, but that the trait is in their genetic make-up. A normal corn het amel would look like a normal corn, but would be able to produce amels, depending on what it was bred to. Does that help?

that makes sense. so their 'grandchildren' would come out creamsicle, but what would the children look like? what does the corn x rat cross look like without the amel?
thanks for all the info!!

Actually...If you want to get into specifics...

Corn x Emoryi =
100% "Rootbeer" Hybrid

Amel Corn x Emoryi =
100% "Rootbeer" Hybrid het for "Creamsicle" Hybrid

"Rootbeer" Hybrid het "Creamsicle" Hybrid x "Rootbeer" Hybrid het "Creamsicle Hybrid =
50% "Rootbeer" Hybrid het "Creamsicle Hybrid
25% "Creamsicle Hybrid
25% "Rootbeer" Hybrid

First generation corn/rat crosses, het for amel, are called rootbeers (or if it was a hypo corn, then it's a cinnamon). I'm looking forward to making some of those myself. I like the hypo look of the cinnamons. Let me look for the link to another thread that had pics. I'll post that in a mo'.

I'm thinking of breeding my emoryi to a Miami to maybe clean up the grey background. Do you think that would work?

I believe it would still be considered a "Rootbeer" due to the fact that Miami's are a line bred trait...I do not mix hybrids myself...I do own a Creamsicle though that I plan on picking up a mate for (another cream).

When I say this, I'm not picking on you, blkkat! I just find it amusing that there are people who so anti-hybrid, but yet they embrace the creamsicles, like they're pure corn. I got a creamsicle several years ago and it wasn't until this Jan when I joined the forum that I found out it was a hybrid. Even though everyone talks about creamsicles being hybrids, it seems to me that they are universally accepted into the cornsnake world, but other hybrids are not. Maybe they've been bred long enough that they are an accepted "morph" more than as a hybrid? What do you think?

I'm not at all anti hybrid. What I am though is anti labeling hybrids as pure. I see that a lot. I feel bad for those whom think they're getting pure stock, but find out later that it's a hybrid. I know how angry I would be if I hadn't known. I hope they are not accepted as just another cornsnake morph. They're a lot more then that (at least to me).

The Cream I have, he was given to me by a mother whose son wasn't taking care of the poor guy. He is in supreme heath now. Very beautiful coloring. I'm choosing to purchase a Cream to pair him with because I want to keep his offspring "clean" (I guess as "clean" as you can be when dealing with hybrids). I will sell them as what they are...

I personally love the Amel Jungle Corns. I've been considering getting a trio. We'll see though...I have a number of other projects I'm working on...

I wasn't bothered at all when I found out my creamsicle was a hybrid. I thought it was cool, myself. I can imagine many would be quite upset if they had no idea.

I love the amel jungles, too. Can't wait to make some!
