Whats going to happen to this baby?? :(

Cornflake1

The Crazy Snake Lady! :-)
I looked in the incubator the other day and found this. I have a good nosey once a week and make sure everything is as it should be. But this time I noticed this. Where the egg is and how it's positioned, it could have been like this for a while and went unoticed. So what do I do? Luckily the bit thats gone funny isn't touching the other eggs and the rest of the egg looks good. Do I leave it and see whats happens? I'm on day 39 so over half way. Thanks in advance :(

Is that mold? I'd suggest just leaving it. I've seen some pretty raunchy eggs hatch (not personally - on these boards).

Yes it definately looks like mould, i caught a glimpse and gently moved abit of the substrate away and thats when I saw it. My worry is coz the egg is angled in that way combined with the laws of gravity, that the baby will be virtually on top of the mouldy part?!?

I have seen eggs look a lot worse (almost totally covered in stuff) and still hatch. I had one clutch this year get really awful looking from the moss and the hatch rite, and I thought for sure it was a pile of dead eggs. They hatched fine at day 77 and the exterior of the eggs seemed of little concern to the babies inside the eggs. I would say you are safe leaving well enough alone.

Leave it alone. I have seen eggs that start oozing at around day 52/53 and still hatch perfectly at day 68/69.

Ciao

You could try gently wiping away the mold, or at least some of it with a q-tip. I've done this in the past, not sure if it helps, but I feel better taking some of it off.

Thanks for all your replys guys! A week on and it still looks the same-no more mold growth....so far....

UPDATE- Woke up this morning to find that this egg had pipped!! and it's the first one of the clutch!! So I am eager for it to emerge so I can see if it's ok! Will keep you all posted on the little fella!! :)
