When does breeding season start?

Nitelion94

I am The Nitelion
Hey. I am getting a job next year so I will have a good cash flow(10 bucks an hour no bills to pay) I plan on breeding. When does season start? And could I buy some breeding age adults before the season starts and just start breeding or do I need to wait till 2012 so I can brumate?????

Hmm that's a good question. I would suggest that you get Kathy & Billy loves book "Comprehensive Owners Guide" if you have it already there is a large section in there that discusses breeding.

As for when breeding season starts, breeders start at different times. I however would also suggest that if your planning on breeding you get a pair and get them acclimated to their new home for several months before attempting to breed.

ok in case anyone reads this to go with what K. Rene said I should be able to get them late jan or the start or feb. Is that enough time for them to get used to every thing?

Are you prepared to have up to 20 mouth to feed if you can't move any hatchlings? I still have 8 of my 16 hatchlings from this year.

If you were to pick up an adult pair, you should do it now before it gets too cold to ship them. Many breeders are also now putting their snakes into brumation and ones that have been available will no longer be once that happens.

Breeding season all depends on which snakes you're trying to breed. Corn snakes, most kingsnakes and rat snakes are usually set up to breed in March and April for hatchlings in late June or July. More and more people are manipulating there snakes to breed as early as the first of the year so they can be the first on the block. There are also other snakes that that are notorious late breeders like black milks and mountain kings. Then there are some more challenging snakes that are fall breeders or have to be cycled in the fall for winter breeding.

Breeding corn snakes is the easy part. You have to know how to take care of the female with eggs, how to prepare her nest box, how to incubate, etc.
There are many ways to do each and there are many good books and articles along with the Internet explaining various methods. You just have sort out what will work best for you.
