When should I feed my snake?

salvadorian

creatures are people too!
I just got her yesterday, she hadn't eaten for five days. When should I try feeding her?

PS.,
She is a small baby.

Consensus has it that you should let her settle in for a few days. Even a very young snake can go a couple of weeks between meals, so it won't do her any harm to wait a while. We always give new snakes a week or ten days to get their bearings before we try a meal.

Although Janine asks a good question, too - almost all of ours have been shipped, and that's a big part of why we wait.

Ah, I got my nearby, from someone who "accidently" bred their snakes, which I'm still trying to figure out....
But anyways, yes, she traveled for about ten minutes between where I got her and her new home!

In that case, as long as the temps etc in the setup are ok, I'd say tomorrow wouldn't be too soon to try. I've always fed mine a day after I get them because they weren't shipped. If the first try is refused, I'd say recheck the temperatures then leave the snake completely alone for a week, no handling, then try again.

Alright. And I just put her in another container with her food source and see if she eats? How long should I wait? Does the container need to be heated?

Place her in a dark container for about 10 minutes then place a Frozen Thawed Pinkie into the container with her. (Touch it as little as possible!) Than seal teh container and put it back in a dark place for 60 minutes then check the snake and I bet you will find a happy corn with a lump in her tummy!

Warm thawed pinky in small tub (with airholes) at room temp.............happy snake!

Ok... I put her in a small round tub with a warmed pinky just now... there is a dark cloth on top. Let's see what happens!

Nope. She wouldn't eat it. I called the people I got her from and she'd eaten a pinky four days ago. I will try on monday!
