When to switch tanks

Keegan just arrived today. I have him in his new home and just letting him do his thing. This is what I have him in now.

My hubby just went and bought a 10 gallon tank. When would be the best time to switch Keegan from where he is now to the new tank?

I don't want to stress him. I know I have to wait a week to let him settle. After the waiting period and then again after his first feed. Should I leave him where he is until he gets bigger? Or just wait the til the third day after he eats?

Any and all help will be most appreciated.

if you got him today switch him today he is gunna have to get used to the new one again so youll have another eait period you will be fine sxitching him now

I'd go with switching him today, too. You can cover three sides of the ten gallon to make it "safer" feeling for him, for the first couple weeks. My babies always do fine in a ten gallon.

Thank you Nancy. I just went ahead and moved him into his new digs. I covered the back up, I'll go and cover the sides as well.

I really appreciate you both helping me. I just want to do what's best for him. Plus the new tank gives him more growing room. Again, thank you.

Be careful with the holes in those flower pots or whatever they are. You don't want him to get stuck.

Nanci, I have the same concern. I'm going to keep an eagle eye on it for the next days. I'm going this weekend to go get something better and safer for him. I'm going to scour my kitchen to see if I have something better until then.

Is he a baby? Toothpaste box, paper towel roll, anything like that. Even a flat piece of cardboard with a bend in the middle. They like flatter, more confining things. I have a (nearly adult) snake with a wine box hide right now, which is a big square with a small "door," but I stuffed it with crumpled newspaper. She loves it.

You are such a life saver Nanci. I just happened to have two empty toilet paper rolls I put in there. I'll take pics tomorrow of the new and improved housing. Both flower pots are out of there.

He really seems to like the bark. He's been under it pretty much the whole time. He has four hides now so hopefully he'll adjust okay and start feeling comfortable.

The bark is year old Locust, we dried a bunch of it to use as kindling for campfires. We had some extra so I cleaned and baked it.

I have vines on my shopping list for this weekend.

Thank you so much:cheers: You've been a huge help.
