Where are the cornsnake people in IL?????

norsmis

Absurdly Existing
It seems there arent a lot of cornsnake people in IL. Why is that??????? I went to a show 2 weeks ago and there were maybe 3 vendors with corns. What gives IL people?????

This is a slow time for corns, a lot of the breeders at the Chicago area show are still waiting for eggs to hatch or new hatchlings to get ready for sale.

That said, even at peak corn availability times there aren't that many vendors at the local show that sell a good selection of corns.

Go to the NARBC show in Tinley Park in October, there will be corn snake breeders from all over the country there.

I know your pain, norsmis. I've yet to find any corn breeders in Utah, much less anyone that's really into the hobby around here. The only herp show that's here is the Wasatch Reptile Expo in September. *sigh*

I will definitely be at the NARBC show. Been planning that trip for a LONG time!

Is there any certain reason for the lack of corn breeders here???

Hmm, I think that there are corn breeders in IL, it's just that -- with the ones that I'm aware of -- they're more "up & coming," still a work in progress, and/or choosing to keep it on a smaller scale. If you're referring to the expo in Wheaton, which I've now been attending for a year, I saw more hatchlings toward the end of summer/beginning of fall last year -- around the same time as the NARBC.

The biggest midwest breeder that I'm aware of (and by no means am I calling myself an expert on this!!!) *used* to live in the Chicago-area and now lives in WI...CCCorns But I imagine that soon CSI Corns will be just as big...:)

(Ok, I hope that I haven't put my foot in my mouth with anything that I mentioned; thank god that I now possess the edit key, if necessary! Although, it won't be the first time my foot has been there!)

I wouldn't say that there's a lack of breeders in the Chicagoland area; this is by no means a comprehensive list, but I can think of at least 4 serious hobbyists/breeders:

Michelle

Lore

Chuck/Connie

and soon, me.

That said, IMHO, it's like asking why the beluga whale shows are held at the Chicago Aquarium and not 300 yards east in Lake Michigan.

Ya goes where theys is. ;)

;) I'm here. I'm small now, Next year will be my first year breeding ;), the rest of my corns will be breedable the following year... all things go well, after that, I hope to expand by buying some nice adults to get things going abit

Yes, I'm in Illinois.

When the time comes, I'll be a vendor at the Wheaton show, it'll be a lil' table... but I'll be there

Oh, right! I forgot about Michelle/Creatures of the Night ! I haven't interacted personally with Michelle, yet, so that's my oversight.

And, if I was a beluga whale, I'd be going nowhere near *into* the waters of Lake Michigan...even just up to my own ankles, it grosses me out. :puke01:

Yep Im here and my babies are hatchin! I've been breeding for about 7 years now...whew time flys!

I don't have the time and/or effort to do the local shows though, I choose to sell online and have my wonderful hubby be the delivery guy!

And what about meeeeee? I need, I need! :grin01:

Imagine how the alewives, trout, and salmon feel.

But hey, if the Great Lakes gross you out, I can only wonder what your feelings about the Mississippi River are. :)

I did meet some of the corn breeders at the Wheaton show on Aug 18 and we had a blast. Everyone we met was very friendly and had awesome corns! I hope to see all of you again (and meet more of you) on September 2 as ew will have a table again.
Here are a few pics of us at our small little table.

Oh, my! Allrighty, here's needy Jazz: White Valley Herp, the site that has yet to be worked on...

:laugh01:

Especially after taking an ecology-based class this summer, I'm even further disgusted with Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River, but I'm mostly disgusted with the politicians who think that they know best what to do...I can really only imagine how the people who are *south* of Chicago feel when they get our leftovers in the Mississippi...:realhot: From what I understand, St Louis isn't too thrilled with us for the water that we send their way, and Canada is p-ohed with us because of our underhanded midnight way of trifling with the contract on Lake Michigan's water (what?! Chicago alone doesn't own Lake Michigan???), and then altogether, the water that everyone sends out into the Gulf of Mexico with that enormous -- and growing! -- dead zone...oy, vey. Poor fishies...I can't imagine...

I was last at the Wheaton expo on Sun, Aug 5th and I spoke with a man who looks just like the guy in the first photo, but about baby bearded dragons, as there were some that I'm guessing were his to sell, as he was right by them...were you at that show, too, or am I mistaking the man/men? :p (It was sooooooo crowded that day, too!) I had so much to pick up that I didn't look around too much, but I plan to be there on the 2nd so perhaps I will see you there, as well. I can't make any promises about buying anything because I've been hereby cut-off with my last purchase, but I can say "hi"...:wavey:

The guy in the first photo (light blue shirt, snake around his neck) is me and I wasnt there Aug 5th. I will be there Sep 2 and I will have a table with the same people in the pictures (my wife, Jen and good friend, Claude). Stop on by and say hi! ITs always good to meet new herpers!
