Where can I buy a rheostat besides petsmart?

The local Petsmart seems to have been out of stock for the past week or so. My UTH keeps reaching around 100 degrees right on the glass so I have it turned off right now. I need to get a rheostat so I can dim down the amount of heat the UTH is giving off and I'm wondering where else I should check. Would Home Depot or Lowes carry them for a decent price?

Also... Some sources I've read mention using a thermostat instead of a rheostat. What's the difference between the two? Please excuse my ignorance here. This is my first corn so I'm still learning all this stuff and I want to make sure I set her tank up right.

A thermostat uses a temperature probe / sensor that will cycle the heater on and off according to the desired temperature that has been set. A rheostat will just reduce / increase the voltage / amperage to the heater but it will remain on at all times. The rheostat can be turned on & off with a timer but you will not truly be able to maintain a stable temperature.

Wal-mart, Lowes, Home Depot any hardware store.

Also... Some sources I've read mention using a thermostat instead of a rheostat. What's the difference between the two? A T-stat turns the UTH "ON" and "OFF" at a set temp. A rheostat just limits the voltage going to the UTH so it can still over heat if the temp in the room goes up and a rheostat is a pain to set. This is a rheostat and this is a T-stat.

My favorite place to get good supplies online is Reptile Basics: http://reptilebasics.com/

I would recommend getting a thermostat right off the bat. I've used rheostats and they're junk. Mine were always too hot or not hot enough, there was no middle ground. I got a thermostat, it cost a lot, but it was worth it! Reptile Basics carries the Thermostat that I purchased. :)
