Where can I buy aspen in bulk?

I was just wondering what stores would carry very large bags of SHREDDED aspen, not chips. I don't wanna have to keep buying small bags.
I live in southern CA btw if that helps. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I get mine in the rodent section at PetCo, they are huge compressed bags, one bag lasts a very long time!

Thanks. I did check PetCo and Petsmart already though. Do you know of anywhere else?

Well I might double check just in case I missed it. How much are they?

I always Google Kaytee Aspen 4 cubic feet and buy the cheapest, with shipping. Usually Pet Mountain or Drs. Foster Smith. That's regular aspen, not that shredded super-fine "snake" aspen. And then I store it in a huge plastic garbage can in my laundry room. If you try to keep it in the bag it spills.

Thanks you guys. I think I'll check out the feed shops then order online if it's not there.
Thanks again for your help!

I too recently went from small bags of aspen to bulk. Got a huge bag at a local reptile show for $20. It's amazing how long one bulk bag can last! And my corn snake is a burrower, so I'm usually pretty generous with what I put in his tank too.

Check out your local feed stores. We have one in our town that carriers very large bags of Aspen.

Thanks you guy for all the replies. I'll be looking into all those things. I think I'll check the feed stores first, then petco, and I was going to a reptile show in July anyway, and if none of those have it, I'll order online :)

The ones I get are the 4 cubic feet, but they are so compressed that they last a long time! Also, they are not the really finely shredded aspen, I wouldn't call them "chips", but more like "shavings".

Again, that is PetCo (or any pet store) in the rodent department. It is amazing how they price things depending on the animal it is for!

I'm not sure I know what you mean. Could you post a pic of the aspen? I wanna see how big the pieces are.
Also how long does one bag last, and how much does it cost?

These are pics I got off the internet. The first is the shavings which is what I use, they are no wider than a nickle. The bag is about 2' tall, 1.5' across and 1' deep. I have had the bag for over a year, I have collected 6 corns in that time and less than 1/3 of the bag is gone. I spot clean daily, but rarely do I take a lot out, so when the layer gets thin I toss a handful or two in the tank. Every 2-3 months (depending on how icky it is) I do a full cleaning, emptying and scrubbing down the tank and all the contents like hides, rocks, plants, wood. I put a 1-2" layer down in the empty tank and replace everything. That bag will last me another year at the rate I am going, maybe a bit less if I keep rescuing. I have one older girl who likes burrowing instead of her hides, so I put 3" or so in her tank.

The second pic is of the shredded aspen, they are really thin. Mine isn't that fine, but the shavings make for better hiding places especially for the little guys.

What I bought was from Petco, their store brand, 4 cubic feet for about $18. Here on their site is a 2 cubic foot bag for $11. http://www.petco.com/product/117368...?CoreCat=MM_SmallAnimalSupplies_BeddingLitter

Oooh, bonus cheap! And yes, if you only have one or two snakes that may last a lifetime!

Just to add to the thread. Cant beat that K-Mart deal...
I buy at Tractor Supply. Compressed 4 cubic feet for $10.99 by Premier Pet. All Natural.

Wow! If you got 4 cubic feet of compressed aspen for $8, you got an awesome deal. Hmm. I might have to go by the local k-mart and see if the same price is available here.
