Where do I measure heat?

Right on the floor of the viv above the UTH, BELOW the aspen. Corn snakes are somewhat fossorial and WILL get right down on the floor, so you want to make sure that's not too hot. If the temperature on top of the aspen isn't high enough they will burrow down, so don't worry about that. Mine excavate & rearrange their aspen constantly! LOL

In my experience there are two kind of thermometers. One you put in your mouth and the other you definitely do not put in your mouth.

Measure temps inside the hide on the warm side (in/on top of the aspen) to make sure its up to par, as well as the cooler side. You want to make sure that the spots where your snake is going to feel the most comfortable (in his/her hides) are proper/healthy temps.

Awesome. :D

I put my stat's sensor ON the heat tape. This means it is a little cooler in the tub itself.

OK, now I understand why Wade had the very strange reaction to my question... I always told my Mom that the thermometer had a funny taste to it.
