where do I put the probe?

I just got my hydrofarm thermostat in the mail, but I have no idea where to put the probe? Do I put it under the tank? Do I put it in the tank? I am so confused!

Since it has taken all of my willpower to not make a crude joke about the title of this thread, I'll simply answer the question. :toiletgra

Congrats by the way; I like the hydrofarms. The probe should be stuck to the bottom of the glass on the inside of the tank, directly over the UTH, so that it measures the hottest temp that the snake might contact. It is also recommended that you also attach a probe for a separate thermometer, just so that you can always verify the reading that you see on the thermostat and catch any malfunctions. Hope this helps.

It is always good to mix humor in with good advice, makes for a better board.

haha i just got one from the mail yesterday.

i think the temperature is too high? I set the max is 86F. Leopard (my snake) is always on the hide against the glass.....is that too hot for her?

I know I am new to snakes, but from what I know 86 is a good temp and my snake only occasionally ventures to the warm side. She prefers her cold hide.

Mid-80s is fine for Corns, as long as that's the temp on the floor surface immediately above the UTH.

lol, so am I the only idiot that opened this thread terrified that you were gonna try to probe the snake with NO idea what you were doing?

Just watch a few cycles of heat. The hydrofarm runs like a house thermostat; it doesn't maintain a steady temp. It cycles on and off. So, while you are setting it at 86, even if the therm shuts off the UTH at 86, it might get as high as 88 or 89 by the time it actually begins cooling off. I have three and they all run slightly different. You just actually have to watch a few cycles and see the range of the heat and adjust your thermostat accordingly. Hope this helps.
