Where to buy mice?

Okay, I just had a second Petco female mouse die on me----for no real apparent reason. I think she was pregnant, and I went to put some more food in there just a sec ago and she was hard as a rock----she was fine a few hours ago.

There's 3 mice left, 2 females and a male. The other Petco mouse isn't looking too hot----and I dont really want to buy from there again now. Problem is, there's nowhere else to buy from.

I am not spending $6 per mouse from Petsmart---I refuse. That is simply a ridiculous price.

Anyway, any help?

Try frozen, BigcheeseRodent.com Rodentpro.com or
Cajun mice.com Check it out. It's worth a look. :)
Good luck to you

I dont do frozen mice, hence the reason for live ones----I'd prefer to breed them.

I only have 11 corns---it's not really worth it IMO to get an order from an online place---and I dont have freezer room.

Aren't there any "Mom & Pop" type pet shops up there?
That's where I get mine, fortunately there are 3 of them in Clearwater.
There's got to be something like that near you.

If you are looking for hardier breeding mice I might actually recomend going online an ordering some live mice. Although I haven't done this myself yet I am planning on getting nude mice ( I worked on them in my labs at school). These might be somewhat hardier and you can actually select for certain traits a mother that is able to produce more offspring etc. This is just a thought and I am unaware of any of the details to purchasing but it could be a good answer to your dilemna.

It is cool to just check out anyways good luck.

If you're going cheap, try a herp show. Had some problems with PetCo mice as well. A vendor at a show in MI always had a large variety of live rodents. Purchased 1.3 from them in Oct '04. Two females died but the remaining female finally raised a litter and her offspring are producing regular now. Production seems to be steady. The mice I bought were 'large' and cost $0.79 each whether they were fancy or lab. The smaller mice were a litlle cheaper. Should've started with the smaller mice because my original female no longer produces.

If you want good mice to breed. Go to a snake show and there will be a live mouse dealer there. Because, the mice he sells is the mice he breeds. So, you will get good quaility mice.

Which occurs once a year up here. I'm not going to wait until Sept for that. The other female coaked, so the last female and male are going to get whacked off tonight and I'm going to start over.

Question is....from where....

that stinks. I can't go out and catch many herps but I can count on at least 3 herp shows within 2.5 hours drive every month up here. Is there a local herp club? Sometimes members sell live mice too.

Nope, no local herp club.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. Dont really want to harass him though, he's in the thick of breeding season.

drop him a email the wrost he can is no but if you buy a snake from him and pick it up I'm sure he will part with a few mice

Thats too bad about the Petco mice, Personally i too don't like them, something about their mice... I have 1.5 going right now, where all of them are from a local petco in VT, i made sure to get the most healthy looking ones there, but i still have one now that looks really sickly, and they are not mating... it's going on a month and Tomorrow i'm going to start a second colony from another local shop that sells younger mice. I'd try Petco or anything else in the area again and make sure the temps, lighting, and food levels are all solid before buying online.
