Where to buy?

What stores come to mind when you need or want supplies for your herps? I don't mean Petco/Petsmart or even the local store that specializes in herps. I also don't mean ProdentPro either.

I'll start off with an example:

Walmart, where you can buy tubs, cheap human or pet eating bowls suitable for snake water bowls, paper towels substrate, scales, tape for taping FedEx boxes, cheap silk plants with wire stems, and many other useful things.

Where do you shop for snake-related stuff? Let's get a big list going.

Pestsmart is where i bought my little one and that where I rely on getting all my stuff. I also rely on Walmart for the cheap but good aspen bedding. so Petsmart

Michael's, for fake flowers.

Feed store for Aspen.

Walmart is where I found heart shaped glass bowls that go great in corners.

I use small animal igloo things as hides.

The only thing I have trouble finding is hides at places other then pet stores. But there is a lot of modifiable stuff out there!

Yeah, but that's too easy! Where ELSE could you find things you could use to care for a snake?

Here's another example:

Home Depot is a useful place, where you can buy wood or melamine to build racks, saws to cut said wood or melamine, screws & fasteners for rack assemply, and so on. They also sell plug in lamp dimmers!

I now get my aspen bedding at Fleet n Farm. $5 a bale is awesome! I get hides there as well. Not sure of the price, but they're right around $2 each. They are rubbermaid drawer organizers. Cut a 2" hole in the bottom (soon to be top) and turn them over.

I now get my water bowls at Wal-mart. Used to get my tubs at Target, but haven't bought those in a while and they no longer make the ones that I currently use anyway.

Hatchling containers (sandwich boxes), egg containers (Gladware), egg laying boxes (Rubbermaid savers), napkins, papertowels and coffee filters from K-Mart.

Sphagnum moss from Lowe's.

Deli cups, lids, heat packs and some boxes from Superior Enterprises. Other boxes from ULine. Styrofoam from Menard's.

. . . off the top of my head.

Is that what you were looking for?! ;)

BIG LOTS!!!! They usually have vines and stuff for vivs on sale for great prices. I've gone in and cleared out their clearance section before. LOL.

Ohhh!..is that what you mean :dunce:... haha. Most of my hides are from the lake. I just sterilize them. My dad and i were going to build a tank from materials out of Home Depot but at the end we decided just to buy the tank. So I guess you could say HomeDepot, Lowes, Hobby Lobby (basically a craft store where you could find alot of materials a snake would love)

I get a lot of decor stuff at Michaels. Especially fake vines and terra cotta pots (which I use for hides).

I also found an awesome snake-proof tank lid at WalMart yesterday!

Garden centres are a good place to get things that can be used for hides, ie terracotta pots turned upside down and the drainage hole made bigger for access, plastic hanging baskets, again turned upside down with a hole cut in the bottom, now top for access, these are great for adult corns and smaller boas. Also a good place to pick up sphagnum moss for lay boxes and moist hides, vermiculite or perlite for incubation boxes. :)

Dollar Store for plastic vines and plants.

Canadian Tire/Home Depot/Walmart for lamp dimmers, scales, piece of wood to make the tank fit on that table that's slightly too small. LOL

Second hand stores and garage sales for used tanks, hides, bowls, etc. etc.

Mother Nature for rocks and wood! ;)

Linen closet for pillow cases....
