Where to get a corn snake

I've decided that my first snake should be a corn, but I have no idea where to get one. I would prefer getting a baby. Is it safe to get one at a local pet store? Can someone recommend a store or breeder website?

Thank You

Hi Lawrence. Welcome to the site.
There is a section on here called "Corn Snakes for Sale".. look there as there are many breeders here on the site. Since you are from NY, there might be some breeders here on this site that's close to you and you don't have to risk having one shipped in the heat. I think they probably wouldn't ship if it's too hot.

IMO, it's best to get a baby corn snake from a breeder as opposed to a pet store.. because the breeder will know the baby's background and ones hatched by breeders are more healthy.

There are alot of great breeders online, but I will tell anyone buying online to check the BOI. There is a link on here good luck with getting your first baby corn.
All you have to do is click on the search part of the forums and type their name in and if something is there it will bring it up instead of having to look at every page.

well it could depend on the area i dont go to petco becuse wene i saw there leperd geckos there tales were so thin that means there unheathy as for petsmart i think the have desent animals much better than petco but i really suggest going to like a small famaly owned place or a non chain

I got my snake from petsmart and don't entirely regret it. We had a discussion on Petsmart semi recently, and I truly admire them as a company. I think they abide by really admirable practices, and aside from cohabbing the snakes, I think they exhibit good husbandry.

I would like a second corn snake and don't intend on going to petsmart, just because I would rather fund the smaller businesses of private snake breeders. Also, you know the history of the snake, which is something petsmart can't provide (I can only guess as to mine's age) At the time I bought him, I wasn't aware of how to even go about buying from a breeder. Now that I have the resources for doing so, I'll go that route.

Good luck!
