Which is more worthwhile?

... to invest in a lavendar, and then cross with a hypo to get the hypo lavendars... or just shell out the money for a hypo lavendar?

Depends on how much of a hurry you're in versus how much money you want to spend.

Hypo X Lav won't produce hypo lavs right away, unless the hypo is het lav, AND the lav is het hypo. You gotta raise up at least a pair from that generation to breed them to each other. :)

If you're talking about buying hatchling Hypo and/or hatchling lav, add in another 2-3 years for them to grow up, too.

By that time, Hypo lavs will be more common... so the prices will have dropped, too. ;)

So with what you're saying, it would be more worthwhile just to invest in the hypo lav. As far as I know, my hypo isn't het for anything... I bought it from Rich, and it only said hypomelanistic, so I am sure that is all it is...

If what you want is one hypo Lav......

Then the best way to get there is to buy one. By the time you bought a Lav and raised it, then raised the offspring to produce a hypo Lav, you'd have much more invested then just buying one hypo lav.

BUT, if you want the experience of producing it yourself, then by all means, go the breeding route.

Well, I am not necessarily in any hurry. I really want to get into breeding snakes. I'd like to get some hypo lavs, as well as some lav motleys and such..

Here's what you can expect......

This is a keeper from my Lav X Crimson to produce hypo Lavs in the future
