I recently had one of my snakes sneeze and expectorate mucous. He was "blue" and getting ready to shed. Vet reports indicated no respiratory infection. Snake now has shed and appears OK. I keep all my snakes on Sani-Chip Shredded Aspen? My thought is that the shredded material would not be as dusty and contain little "fines" that could be breathed in. Pros and Cons of both? Thanks very much. Don

I have never bought Sani-Chips so I can not answer your question. I can tell you that I buy my Aspen at a Feed Store as Horse Bedding(Stable Bedding). I use to buy my Aspen bedding at Wal-Mart in the rodent section.

The sneeze was more than likely because he was getting ready to shed.

I LOVE Sani Chips. I just changed over about 4 months ago. It is almost like sand, in that it clumps great and looks better than just the old Aspen I used to use.

I haven't had any problems with it so far. I noticed more dust from the shredded aspen I bought from Tractor Supply.

Glad the shed went well. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Corns sometimes do that at shed.
Your substrate is likely not the cause.
It never hurts to experiment with other substrates though.
