Which way does my UTH face up?

I just got my T-rex UTH 30-40gallon. Which way is "up" One side is all black, the other has a golden strip on the top and bottom with a warning label?

Thanks.

Sticky side toward tanks but I suggest leaving the paper covering the sticky on and duck tape it on.

I really don't think it matters. Yes, the sticky side is supposed to be toward the tank, but if you stick it to a tile, the sticky side will be away from the viv. It will still heat correctly, though. I agree with Lenny, though, don't stick it to the viv. Duct tape it or stick it to a tile.

I sure do have one

Anyone have a for sure answer? I dont see why they dont say this on the directions of the thing.....

I sure DO have a for sure answer for ya; if you look up a couple posts I left it for you.

Let's try this again:

label side away from the surface to be heated.

T-rex places their stickers on the "read" side of the UTH so that, when installed, you can still read the warning/instructions.

. . . there ya go. Definitive. Explanatory.

And hopefully ya believe me this time ;]

GL with it!

I do not think it should matter which side 'goes up'. Both sides should heat the same--but what you may want to do is plug in the uth, let it heat up, and then measure the temp. on both sides with a thermometer probe.

exactly mate both sides the same heat

normally tho, at the back of the heat mat where the cable is. there is a ump of plasic connecting the cables... does your have this?

oh, and my strip things, gold or bronze, are on top...

The pic with the warnings and the element is the bottom, the black side is the top. On adhesive ones the black side would be the side stuck to the tank. 150% guaranteed... I checked the website =P

I've just bought a Habistat heat mat and to paraphrase the instructions they say that the mat gives out heat like a radiator - ie kicks out equal heat both sides so it really doesn't matter which way the mat goes.

All they did say is because it kicks out heat both sides the side facing away from the tank should have a layer of polystyrene about 8mm thick under it to help reflect the heat from the non-heating side.

Looking at how it is constructed this makes sense but each make of mat may be different. Why don't you fire off a quick email to the manufacturer to check with them.

Cheers
