While Cleaning?

Our baby hatchling is coming home this weekend, we have already seen her/him at my friends house but he has to shed and eat first. He's from a snowxokeetee and looks really cute. I have been getting the viv set up and have the heat pad on and am monitioring the temp on top of the substrate with a digital thermometer, and I'm glad I got a rheostat 'cos the temp is definitely higher than the 85 at the warm end. But my real question is, it took quite a while for the substrate (aspen wood chips to get to temp (more than 5 hours). Now after a cleaning of the tank the substrate will have to warm up again so is the amount of time the snake is put somewhere else with no heating ok? Is it ok to put him back while it's warming up again?

Thanks
Tina
anxiously awaiting the new arrival

A few hours is nothing!

This wouldn't present a problem. The recommended temp range is for optimal conditions. I recently moved and my collection went 4 days without external heat sources. (Room temp ~78)

Think about conditions that exist across the corns natural range. It doesn't stay at a constant 83 degrees. The ability of corns to adapt to a wide variety of environmental conditions is part of what makes them an ideal starter project for new herpers.

I hope you enjoy your new pet, but watch out; one leads to two, then three, then.......;)

I completely agree with Cav. My enclosure varies at times, and Sage seems fine. Very active and healthy. I keep her in a room out of the ACs way, and have a heating pad. I wish you luck with your little one. Be sure and post up lots of pics of him/her.
