my corn snake keeps standing at attention like a cobra ready to strike? and i have no idea why he keeps doing this if any one knows please tell me why. i'm starting to worry.

This is called posturing and it's basically just a defensive stance. Your snake is a bit scared of you and is telling you to "Leave Me Alone!". It's very normal. I am willing to be that you haven't had him/her for very long. Some snakes will stop, once they get used to their new environment.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

It is very normal for them to do this. I have a six month old zigzag that we affectionately nick named, Hatelyn. She does the same thing. Think of it as a warning. The snake is saying that you are scaring the "poo" out of him and he is acting all big and tough.

BTW, you should go to the "New Member Forum" and introduce your self.

Welcome! I would agree. He is probably just scared and not wanting to be bothered. May I ask what you mean by keeping his bedding moist? Corns should be kept fairly dry to avoid bacteria growth and other issues. Some people mist the tank when their snake is shedding but even this isn't necessary.

Since you were no where near him, it makes me think he was just trying to find something to climb. Was he shaking his tail? Was he looking toward something that was moving in the room like a piece of paper in the wind of a fan? Does he strike at you when you open his cage or take off? He could be looking for something to climb to get off of the substrate if you keep it too moist. They will also stand up high to look over objects like grass in the wild.

The other posters could be right but there are also other signs to confirm if he is truly scared or not such as the tail shaking and striking.

I would like to thank everyone for their answers. He does not strike at me when I pick him up and is quite friendly. I don't know if his tail was shaking because it was hidden by his cave, but I have never seen him do this. I will go introduce myself in the new members forum.
Thanks again!
