why does my snake like the cold?

I have had my snake for almost a year now and I know what my temps are supposed to be ideally. My temps always seem to be a little low, especially on the cool side. On the warm side it's always 80-83. On the cold side its usually 71-73, sometimes a little colder at night. My snake is always on the cold side though. Every once in a while I see my snake in the warm hide but very very rarely.

I'm sure my snake is fine since it's been fine for almost a year. I just always wonder if maybe my snake wants colder temps or something. I always feel like the cage it too hot for my snake if it is always on the cold side. Should I just leave my temps the same or maybe lower my temps a little?

Same

My snake does the same excact thing, I rarly ever see her on the warm side. Usually she is up in the tree when she is on that side never in the hide. Sorry I can't help you out but I would love to know the answer to your question as well.

As long as both sides are within the ideal temp ranges, I wouldn't worry about it. I have also had snakes that spent a majority of time on the "cool" side.

It could be that your snake doesn't like the hide that is on the warm side, mine had an issue with that for a while. He wouldn't go into the hide I put on the warm side until I made a humid hide out of a sour cream container, now thats the only hide he uses. Just a thought ;)

At first I thought it was the hides so I went out and bought another of the same hide (the coconut huts) so she wouldn't favor one over the other.

Is there a rheostat or thermostat controlling the heat mat? How are you measuring your temps? Is it with a digital thermometer with a probe or a temp gun?
